Help us support and retain New Teachers

We are always seeking courageous innovators

to join us on this journey.

  • Teacher turnover is too high!

With 50% of New Teachers resigning within four years, we MUST work together to solve the chronic teaching shortage.

  • ELP works.

Teachers who participated in the first year of our pilot program (2021-22) were more likely to still be teaching in 2022-23 compared to their in-district counterparts who were not in ELP.

  • Participants stay in the profession.

In three states (Indiana, Minnesota, and Ohio), every teacher who participated in 2021-22 was still teaching in 2022-23. In Iowa, 6 of the 7 were; in Michigan, 9 of the 10 were; and in Nebraska, 8 of the 9 were.

Here’s how you can help

Subject Matter Experts

ELP is a collaborative effort, and we are looking for new partners who will bring their ideas to the table, help us improve the model, and share their subject matter expertise. If you have a background in education and education consulting, we would love to talk to you.

Ambassadors

Building awareness of our program is a monumental task, and we need people to help spread the word. If you care deeply about the future of public education and our teachers, let’s discuss how you can introduce ELP to your local school communities.

School Districts

If your school district is struggling with teacher recruitment and/or retention, our professional support model can help address both. New Teachers who know they will have support to become more confident and competent faster may view your district more favorably. And a majority of ELP participants from year to year say they plan to stay in teaching for their career.

Teachers’ Unions

ELP supports both your and your members’ goals. As a participating member of ELP, you will see increased interest in association activities, higher perceived value in membership, and stronger relationships between district schools. Meanwhile, your members receive practical support for immediate needs, high-impact leadership opportunities, and intentional, career-lasting relationships.

Philanthropists

Investing in our program does more than help solve the very specific and dramatic problem of teacher shortages. You will help improve public schools in other ways. The experienced teachers who serve as coaches and mentors report that their teaching practices also improve. With a direct correlation between teacher competency and student achievement, students will reap the rewards.

For potential partners with a racial/social justice mission, our model helps ALL New Teachers stay in the profession, including teachers of color.

All money raised will be used in two ways.

1: Pay stipends to participants.

2: Fund the implementation of the model in its current configuration, which includes hosting workshops, providing online support and online tools, and conducting ongoing research to track how well the model is working.

All donations are tax-deductible; ELP is a 501(c)3 nonprofit created by the participating affiliates to lead and manage the implementation of this model and to raise funds to accomplish that.
